Gift Receipts!

TIP: When buying presents for kids’ parties, make sure to ask for a gift receipt and include it in the birthday card.  Often, stores these days are not allowing returns to their stores without either a regular or gift receipt.  Just to make it easy on the birthday kid’s parents, remember the gift receipt!

It will definitely be appreciated!!

Themes for the Big 13!

So, you are about to welcome your kid to her teen years!  It’s a big moment…if looking for themes, have a browse below:

  • Dance @ a Community Hall
  • Hotel Party
  • Camp Out in your backyard, if warm enough
  • Copy one of the reality TV Shows that are so popular: Amazing Race, Survivor or Fear Factor: Can take place at a park, backyard, or other outside venues, such as a mall for the Amazing Race.
  • A 60s Party
  • Rock Star Party
  • Spa Party
  • Go Bowling @ the local alley
  • Enjoy Roller Skating
  • Pool Party, at a local community pool

Most of the time, these kids at the age of 13 will want to spend a good amount of their time on their own with one another during the party.  Providing a theme will add to the fun, but recognize that they will also want time on their own as well.  It’s a rite of passage that all of have been through.

Age When Kids Attend Parties On Their Own

shutterstock_15023134What is the age when you can expect that the kids will attend parties on their own without their parents?

A general rule of thumb is that kids up to the age of 5 will most likely attend with their parents. Once primary school begins, around the age of 6, parents may begin doing the “drop off” at parties. Still, there may be a few kids around the age of 6 who are not comfortable being left alone ~ so you should expect a few parents attending even at this age. Certainly, by the age of 7, most kids will expect to be dropped off and you can begin to count on the number of guests only reflecting the kids you invite to the party.

Flower Fairy Party

Here are some fantastic ideas for your Flower Fairy Party from one of our visitors:

We are giving our six year old a flower fairy themed party this week.  We introduced her to Cicely Barker Poetry and she is hooked, and from this she has learned flower names and habits.  It’s wonderful!

Our Flower Fairy Party will be held at an herb farm on Long Island.  It is a beautiful location, but a home yard is fine too.

Two Seemingly Unrelated Themes

Often when little kids are asked what exactly they would like for their next party…they let you know exactly what it is…and often they are seemingly completely unrelated, i.e. a strawberry bubble party.  How about a princess superhero party?  Recently, I saw that a little kid wanted this theme for her party…you may also find your little one asking for out of this world themes…but actually they are really just their favorite characters, ideas, and/or things combined into one.  Now, here is where you really need to become creative…in the latter case of the princess superhero party…here are some thoughts:

When the guests arrive, and they are all dressed up as a princess…use a magic wand and dispense a super power that the kid will have during the party.  You could even ask them what Super Power they would want most to have…then bestow it on them in a little ceremony.  As an opening craft idea, Have them make a door hanger depicting their super power  using  pre-cut door hanger cutouts from a craft store using glitter glue, markers, and crayons.

One Year Old Party @ a Commercial Venue?

You are planning your kid’s first birthday party, and you have always heard what a great place Chuck E Cheese is for kids’ parties, and you are thinking of booking your party there…think again!

Unless you are having a bunch of older (than 3 years) kids attending your baby’s first birthday party and your main concern is to entertain this group, hold off on the Chuck E. Cheese for a few years.

A place like this may overwhelm your one year old as there is so much going on and most, if not all, of the fun is for older kids…So, as the older kids are off here and there playing, much of the focus will be off the baby turning one.
