Donating the Presents to a Charity

Donating the Presents to a CharityIf you are hosting a birthday party and your kid really doesn’t need any more stuff, or you are trying to teach your kids the idea of philanthropic giving, some language that you could use in your invitation is:

“In the spirit of giving, the gift you bring to our party will be donated to X charity. The charity seeks to…”

Rudolph Blinking Nose

Holiday Tip:

If you are looking for a blinking red nose, much like the one Rudolph had, you can find it at Restoration Hardware this year. I have not seen it on their website, but if you have a store near you, check it out as they are in the store. You could always order one to be sent to you as well.

Holiday Parade

shutterstock_7914067Is your city or town hosting a holiday parade this month?  If so, it would be a great idea to gather your kids’ friends and head to the parade.  This is a great birthday party plan if your kid is having a birthday in December and you are looking for a fun “outdoors” type of party as well.  Otherwise, if you just want to give your friends some time to shop without the kids along, I am sure they would be very happy for you to organize a trip to the local parade.  This could work with a plan for a city walk to take in the sights and sounds of the town’s holiday season as well.

As a note, if you take the kids to a parade, have a manageable number that you invite or ask for additional adults to help supervise depending on the age of the kids and the number.  Also, you may need additional help transporting the kids to the parade area.  Have the kids bring folding chairs and blankets if they would like to sit down as well.  Hopefully, you will be able to find an open area to be seated.

Easy Ornament Swap

If your child is just beginning her school years, a wonderful tradition that you may want to begin and carry throughout all of her school grades is an annual ornament swap. Each holiday season, send out a simple invitation to announce the ornament swap. As examples, draw ornaments on brightly colored construction paper and add the party details. For something a bit fancier, take round globe ornaments and uncap them. Inside place the party details in a rolled up small scroll of paper. Make sure to tell your guests about the details being inside. These would need to be hand-delivered.

An Annual Tradition: Holiday Cookie Party

shutterstock_22121716If you are looking for a kids’ holiday party idea that can be used as a stand-alone party, as part of a birthday party, or just a traditional gathering during the festive season…why not make cookies?  If the idea appeals, it is really quite easy to put together.

One note, take into account the age of the kids who will be attending to determine how much actual baking will be done.  If small kids will be there, having the cookies prepared beforehand and having them decorate the cookies would be excellent.  A little bit older kids could handle rolling out chilled dough, cutting them into shapes with cookie cutters, doing an activity while they bake and cool, and then decorating.  Older kids will appreciate taking on the challenge of making the cookies themselves from start to finish.
