Thank You Notes

The Art of Saying Thanks…

So, the guests have left, your party was a true success with your birthday kid feeling special and happy…the big day is over.

You may have decided to open the presents during the party, or to save them for a private opening without friends around. Either way is perfectly acceptable.

Quick Tips for Throwing A Half Birthday Party

Does your child have a birthday in December, January, or February? Do you live in a place where it happens to be winter during these months? If so, you, most likely, are indoors celebrating…whether it be in your home or an alternative venue. How many winter kids dream of a great outdoors party to celebrate at least once during their childhood?

A great idea to get around this problem is to enjoy a simple family celebration on the actual wintry birthday date, i.e. cake and candles with immediate family and a present or two, and hold the actual birthday party mid-year with all of their friends when it is summer. This is especially a good plan for school-aged children (5 to 10 years old) who are old enough to want an outdoor party and also able to wait for the fun celebration, which will be a few months away.

Alternative Themes for Holiday Birthdays

Although my birthday falls in the middle of summer, I always felt bad for my friends born around the big holiday season. We all know these are the kids who generally have to either have a holiday birthday party, or just sort of get “overlooked” with all of the holiday shuffle. Their birthday gifts mingle with the Christmas ones, and there really is no unique birthday celebration.

Recently, a friend related to me that her mother always insisted on having her December birthday party be the annual Christmas party. She longed for a summer birthday party, and even ended up donning a sundress one year for the annual birthday/Christmas party. Her mother was completely appalled, but it says something about those kids having parties in December. They would really like to have their own celebration that is detached from the holiday business. Even if it isn’t possible each and every year…it is good to shake things up a bit and throw a unique party in December. As much as the birthday kid will appreciate it, the guests will enjoy as well.

Frosty the Snowman Party Theme

Your baby is about to turn one in the middle of these cold, wintry days!  Never fear, there are some darling themes you can choose from that match the season perfectly.  One of them is the quintessential snowman.  If you live in a snowy area this may particularly appeal to you, especially the story of Frosty the Snowman, who, when he comes to life, exclaims each time, “Happy Birthday!”

Send a snowman invitation.  This can be very simple to put together using white construction paper, and decorating with the traditional black coal eyes, buttons for the body, corn cob pipe, a carrot for the nose.  You can use different colors of papers/markers for the invitation, or actually use buttons for the body and eyes, cotton balls for the body, etc.  On the reverse side, list out the party details.

1. To decorate a cardboard tube that may hold anything from a poster to a fishing pole, wrap plain white butcher paper around the tube and then make it into a candy cane stick by adding a wide red ribbon that is wrapped around the tube.
