Up! Party

Pixar released another fantastic movie: Up! It’s the story of a 78-year-old balloon salesman, Carl Fredericksen, who has dreamed of adventure his entire life. He decides to go on a grand one when he attaches thousands of helium balloons to his home to go up, up, and away on a fabulous journey to South America. Not until he’s in the air does he discover stowaway Russell, an 8-year-old wilderness explorer who is completely equipped to handle the outdoors (but has never left the city). The two meet a delightful cast of characters on this journey of a lifetime.

Given the fantastic use of balloons in this computer-animated 3-D film, this is a perfect movie to build a kids’ party theme around. Just think balloons, balloons, and more balloons!

Land of the Lost Party

landofthelost1Land of the Lost was an absolute favorite TV show of mine growing up in the 1970s. After school the adventures the cast of characters faced in the Land of the Lost always kept me tuning in.  How fun is it that this summer a new movie based on this popular TV show comes to life for parents and children alike? Starring Will Ferrell, the Land of the Lost movie is full of bugs, dinosaurs, cavemen, and more fun that kids love!

This would be an excellent family party for both kids and adults this summer. What’s the inspiration for ideas? Take a look at Bug Party ideas and Dinosaur Party ideas too. You can also find some more Land of the Lost party ideas here too:

Ladybug Girl Party Inspiration

booknewsladybuggirlbumblebeeboynewDoes your daughter love the book Ladybug Girl by husband and wife team, Jacky Davis and David Soman?  This is the story of a little girl, Lulu, who, in ladybug attire – red-and-black polka-dot wings, a red tutu, and antennas – makes up her own fun when her parents and big brother don’t have time to play with her.  It’s all about making your own fun and Lulu does just that with Bingo, her Basset Hound.   Lulu saves ants in distress and jumps through shark-infested puddles too!  What a creative story that children love to use their imagination to create their own world of fun.  It’s a great storybook to give as a gift, or to build a Ladybug Party around as well. Penguin, the book’s publisher, also has an Activity Guide for more Ladybug Girl activities too – for a party and beyond!

Kids’ Party Time Celeb Style

shutterstock_9507595-1Yahoo’s OMG page features a fun article on Celeb Kids’ Parties that is a good read…not only about going over the top, but also about keeping it simple.   There are great tips on planning your party here and I particularly like this one:

One of the things I am doing now (on Dayna’s recommendation) is keeping a file of anything I see in a magazine or elsewhere that I think would be great for a party. That way, when it’s time to plan, you already have a whole stack of ideas to look at and budget for.
