Please welcome Amy Turn Sharp, who recently shared her carnival party theme with me. Amy is the owner of www.littlealouette.etsy.com and a blogger at doobleh-vay. She is also an editor at Kirtsy and Blog Nosh and writes a weekly column for Scoutie Girl! Although Amy is busy, she loves planning parties! Amy says, “I laugh about how I actually love planning them more than working on them! I think that my kids will recall some details of their parties when they are older- much like I did. My parents were way into birthdays and it has rubbed off I think! It is a guilty pleasure to pretend plan parties in my head!”
Check out Amy’s carnival party at doobleh-vay. Very cool. I asked Amy what she thought the high points of the party were, and here is what she said:
“I think the frugality of the party was ace- we made everything and it was so creative and fun to work on! We thought about the games from our childhood school and church carnivals that we loved as kids and recreated them. We also served popcorn out of vintage bags and we gave each kid a bag and a roll of tickets at the ticket booth when they arrived! They loved it! We got trinkets from our local party shop! We used items that we already had- like a puppet booth as a ticket booth – and borrowed old clothes for a crazy clothes race and used feed sacks from Jack’s grandpa’s farm for the sack races! It was a real family affair!
“We had a blast! You can focus on anything you like- the mime was cool and the games kept the kids busy for well over an hour and for 4/5 year olds- you know this rules!!! We had a photo booth set up and it was a blast. The kids took home bags of animal crackers and balloons as a treat!
“It was a huge hit and easy to recreate in a frugal manner. It is the kind of party kids need- fresh air, popcorn, fun, mimes, clowns, wee trinkets, and cake!”
I couldn’t agree more, Amy!
