greenscavengerhunt1Welcome Katie Schultz!  She is our Guest Party Blogger and blogs at Schultz Party of Four.  I absolutely love scavenger and treasure hunts of all types and so when I found Katie’s idea on a Color Scavenger Hunt, I just had to reach out and see if she would share her idea with us.  Welcome Katie!  Make sure to visit her at Schultz Party of Four too!

Inexpensive and super simple, a Color Scavenger Hunt is something kids and parents can appreciate.

Invitations can be simple (pick up paint chips from your local hardware store and print the information on a label affixed to the back) or more involved (give each guest a small box of crayons with the ‘Hunt’ color missing), affix a label inquiring ‘we’re looking for a color!’

The color you seek is also flexible, perhaps the birthday girl’s favorite purple or green for an Earth Day celebration.

Likewise, the location can be flexible. Your home may be a perfect venue, or you can wander the grocery store for the amazing spectrum of colors avaible in the produce section alone. The joy of the simplicity is that the child will realize the color is everywhere, no matter the location.

For our party we chose a green search around a small downtown area with four little girls. We brought a small digital camera to capture each green find, allowing each girl to take a few shots of her own. A seperate camera to capture the fun is helpful as well.

This theme provides a very casual time for the children to explore and learn and be children. It is helpful to prompt with the first few items and they will quickly want to do the searching on their own.

If a birthday cake is being served at some point it is fun to decorate the cake in the same color.

Thank you notes can be made of a printed collage of the green photos. This will provide a fun memory for the guest and reinforce what they saw and learned.
