A western theme around cowboys is always a fun idea for a kids’ party ~ and that includes both the boys and the girls! A round up of fun ideas to bring this theme alive for some good ol’ stomp’n fun around your party campground!
Check out the Rodeo Cowboy Party Supplies to pull the theme together!

For the invitations, send out “Wanted” posters with all of the party details inside. You can tie it up with a red checkered bandana and ask that the kids bring this bandana to wear at the party.
Another unique idea would include purchasing either cowboy hats or cow bells. On the outside of either one, paint the guests’ name on them, and inside attach the party details in a small scroll. Again, ask guest to bring their hats or cow bells to the party.
Ask guests to dress in western attire for even more party fun.
The classic decorations for this party include the colors red and white. These can be used in a checkered tablecloth, balloons, and streamers. Also, for added festivity to your hoe down table, place a horseshoe at each place setting and attach a balloon to them in similar colors. A Sheriff’s badge would be a fun napkin holder and another goody kids can keep after the party. A Cactus plant in the center of the table would also be a thematic addition.
Set out real hay on the front entrance to your party, and if you have a saddle place this atop the bale of hay. Other fun items around the party area would include lasso ropes, Wanted Posters, cowboy and girl cutouts on the walls, and signs on the bathroom that say “Cowboys” and “Cowgals.”
Place cacti and stones along the path to your front door.
Play western music such as Patsy Cline, Johnny Cash, Loretta Lynn, etc.
Play horseshoes.
Play “Pin the Badge on the Sheriff.”
Play “Hot Bandana” as you’d play “Hot Potato.”
Play Musical Hats.
Enjoy a round of Square Dancing or learning the TX Two Step,
Enjoy a rope tying contest with licorice.
Find the Penny in the Haystack, by hiding pennies and other small toys in your bale of hay.
Perfect menu would include: anything BBQ’d, hot dogs, baked beans, cole slaw, corn bread, pot of chilil, corn on the cob, and potato salad. Serve Root Beer!
For the cakes, check out these western sweets. Enjoy toasting marshmallows and making a batch of s’mores.
The goodies can include cowboy hats, bandanas, sheriff badges, western stickers, licorice ropes. If you are giving out bandanas, place the goodies on the bandana and pull the four corners up to tie together. Easy pouch for them to take home!
Have a giddy’ up good time!

We had a cowboy themed party for my son’s 1st birthday. I bought little wooden sheriff badges from Michaels (there were like 25 cents each) and painted them a goldish yellow color and then personalized them with “Deputy” and then the kids’ name. I painted “Sheriff Ryder” on my son’s badge. I hot glued a pin to the back of them and pinned them each to a bandana. I painted some wood picture frames (99 cents at Michaels) and painted and glued a wooden cowboy boot (again from Michaels, where I found the sheriff badges) and set up a “paisley” background with a wooden rocking horse and took a picture of each kid on the horse for them to put into the frame. Since some of the children were too small to do a pinata…I spread out some candy on my son’s cowboy blanket and made some horse shoes out of red and blue foam and had the kids toss that onto the blanket of candy. Whatever was inside the horseshoe was the candy they got to put in their bag.
