So, your kids’ birthday is about six weeks away, and you wonder what you are going to do? I find that this is THE appropriate time to have a heart-to-heart chat with your kid to see what he or she would like. Often, kids have already expressed what they want…they may be into pirates and want a pirate party or a Barbie party. A lot of times the themes of interest will relate directly to toys they are playing with, TV shows and/or movies they are watching, or an activity they are enjoying, i.e sports.
If budget is a serious consideration, look for party goods on sale, and then give your child a choice that fits what you are willing to spend. Birthday in a Box has a variety of patterns on sale, some up to 70% off!
Last year, while I was in Brisbane, my 8 year old cousin had an awesome party…it involved rock climbing! She loved it so much…not because she had done this with her family, but because the previous three birthday parties she had attended were at the rock climbing center, and she just loved it! How easy was this for her parents to plan…book the rock climbing center! Instant theme, activity, fun. Don’t think you must do something completely unique to other parties that have been done … if the kid is happy with the exact same thing, it is easy on you and you will have a happy birthday kid!
Tuning into your kids to decide what the party should involve is key. Really, as young as three year olds is old enough to consult your child. When your child feels that they are a part of deciding the theme of their special day, they will also be engaged in the planning that will take place over the next 6 weeks’ time.
It’s your kids’ special day…allow them “buy-in” to the process. They will love it, and you are guaranteed a party that will please!
