Children’s Tea Parties:

This is a really fun party to throw for your 4 to 10 year old daughter! Usually it is a time for dress-up sophistication for your little girl, and it is also an opportunity for some etiquette lessons…these can be learned in a fun and festive environment.

Send out a formal tea invite to your daughter’s friends. A small number for this type of a party would work best. On the invitation, ask the guest to dress-up in a wonderful outfit…ask for them to put on a dress, good shoes, some special jewelry, maybe even lip gloss. Also, ask for the guest to bring along a farorite teddy bear whom will be their guest at the tea…this especially works well when they are little girls, 4-7 years of age.

Make sure that when the guests arrive, have had a little time to mingle. If you would like a craft to begin with, have the children make a special nametag for themselves for the tea. You could do this out of a doillie. They could also make one for their guest bear as well.

Once everyone has arrived, have the guests sit down to a table set with good china and glasses. Make it fancy. You can serve small tea sanwiches, scones with jam and cream, small cupcakes, little pastries…all of those good things that the swanky hotels serve. Serve this on a pretty platter. All things bite-sized will go over well with this group!

Duirng the tea, you can remind the guests how to place a napkin on your lap, how to eat and speak politely, and generally discuss good table manners…you can do this while the tea is going on of course.

As a group activity, you can have the guests discuss their favorite bear story, i.e. why did they choose their special guest bear for the afternoon. Encourage creativity and good, descriptive language while they tell their stories. You can also tell the guests the ritual of tea time and what has made it so special. The art of conversation will not be lost on this group!!

The party can last from an hour to 90 minutes. If you find the guests becoming ansy, you can always have them play with their bears together, or do another doillie craft or two.

On the way out of the door, provide a small goody to your guests…a little inexpensive teacup filled with colorful mints or other candies would go over well. Wrap it in colorful cellophane with a bow tied. Also, a proper teaspoon would also be keeping with the theme.

“As for Me, Make Mine Tea”…the old adage is not half bad for this wonderful kids party!
