On April 25, both Australia and New Zealand celebrate Anzac Day to commemorate a battle fought at Gallipoli, Turkey during World War I. It is a national holiday in these countries, and people enjoy being off from school and work. Even if you don’t live in these Australia or New Zealand, however, you can take some time to discuss the holiday with your kids. Take out a map and globe, and show them the countries that celebrate Anzac Day. You can also listen to some music from Australia and New Zealand.

Another simple and fun way to commemorate the day is to bake a batch of Anzac biscuits with your kids. These were eaten by the soldiers and are made from a limited number of ingredients that were available during the war. Baking these biscuits is educational and fun, and the end result is oh-so-yummy!
