A christening is a very important marker for many families with small children. In the Christian faith, a baby is blessed with water in this special ceremony. Sometimes children are older when they are baptized. No matter the age of the child, a christening is considered a significant event that many families celebrate together.
Often times, christenings take place around Easter. If your does, or you simply want to celebrate with an Easter theme, here are some party ideas that will suit a large gathering:
Decorate your party area, either indoors or outdoors, with pastel-colored balloons and streamers. You should also be able to find some special baptism Mylar balloons to mark the event. Match your tableware to your color theme, and place fresh pots of flowers (a sign of new life) on to the table. White candles surrounded by glass hurricaines is another symbol of baptism that makes a great table decoration.
Play classical music to keep with the theme of the baptism. Alternatively, hire a musician or two to play live music for your party guests. This decision will depend on your budget and how fancy you want your event to be.
Invite a character bunny to come and entertain the kids, or rent a character costume and have a friend dress up and play games with the kids. This type of entertainment will keep the kids engaged and busy for the majority of the party.
Have an Easter egg hunt! Also have your guests make their own bunnies and eggs out of modeling clay. The kids can take their eggs and modeling clay pieces home in a small basket as a remembrance of the event.
If there will be more adults than kids at the christening, perhaps an elegant afternoon tea with scones, tea sandwiches, and pastries would be appropriate.

As a goody, you can provide a white candle to your guests with your child’s name and christening date written on it. Provide the kids with a sugar cookie in the shape of a candle or cross, and have your child’s name and christening date written on it in icing. A pastry shop can make these up for you. Put the cookies in cellophane bags, and tie them with a pretty silk ribbon with a thank you tag attached to it. The adults can also receive a cookie. (I would not recommend giving the candles to the small children, however.)
