Adoption Day Celebration Ideas

shutterstock_10054765 (1)A family Adoption Day event is a way to honor the day your adopted child came into your family. This is celebrated on the anniversary of your child’s adoption, which may fall on National Adoption Day (November 21 this year).

Many families have come up with other creative names to mark the anniversary of their child’s adoption: Family Day, Love Day, Arrival Day, or Family Anniversary.

Colonial Games and Treats

shutterstock_2074526If you’re planning a Thanksgiving day or President’s Day celebration, it might be fun to have some colonial games and treats. This might work especially well if your child loves colonial history and you would like to throw a party based on the days of old. Check out these ideas:

  • Have kids come dressed in colonial attire.
  • Have the kids write their names using a quill pen and parchment paper.
  • Have sack races using traditional burlap bags.
  • Play marbles, or have a marbles tournament.
  • Make paper dolls.
  • Play “Scotch-Hoppers” or as we know it, Hopscotch!
  • Play Leap Frog.
  • If it is a windy day, fly some kites.
  • Spin tops.
  • Play Cat’s Cradle.
  • Play Tag.
  • Play Hide and Seek.
  • Make Cornhusk Dolls.

Holiday Movie Outing

shutterstock_5425972If you are looking forward to getting out of the house this season, rather than staying in during all of those vacation days, why not take your kid and a few of his best pals out to the movies. This is a perfect birthday and/or holiday outing, especially if movie tickets are found in your stocking.

This is really easy to put together as well. Casually, call up a few of your kids’ friends’ parents and see if they wouldn’t mind an afternoon on their own while you take them to the show. I bet most will be more than happy to have their children go to the movies. Make sure that the kids have enough money for their ticket and a treat at the movie. If this is a part of a birthday party, then most people will expect the host to pay for the whole outing, but if it is a holiday outing make sure the kids have the money they will need.

Thanksgiving Art Project for Kids

shutterstock_27950063When children work on art projects related to Thanksgiving Day, they receive several benefits. Not only do they have the opportunity to create, kids also learn about the history of Thanksgiving and can say thanks for the people and things around them. There is no need for elaborate crafts or expensive supplies. These Thanksgiving art projects from Karen Perkins at Celebrations.com start with basic items most little artists probably already have in their supply kit.

Thanksgiving Greeting Cards
You send cards for Christmas, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day and maybe Easter. Why not Thanksgiving, too? It is the perfect opportunity for kids to tell a grandparent, older relative or special friend they are thankful for them.
