Olivia If your child is a fan of Ian Falconer’s Olivia, she can now watch this darling character on Nick Junior. Olivia is a curious 6-and-three-quarter-year-old piglet who believes big things are unfolding each and every day. With a precocious mind and a definite sense of purpose, Olivia is ready to take on her world in a big way. These books are absolutely charming, and perhaps already a favorite in your own home.

Simple Sidewalk Chalk Fun

If you are looking for some easy party fun that is budget-friendly and creative this spring or summer, look no further than a box of sidewalk chalk. When each guest arrives, provide him or her with several chalk sticks tied together with a ribbon. The party activities can take place around the chalk. For games and activities using this magic stuff, check out these ideas:

  1. Check out this great article on how to make sidewalk chalk for the especially creative!
  2. Draw a Hop Scotch pattern and play.
  3. Draw a Tic Tac Toe board and play.
  4. Make a sidewalk mural together.
  5. If an outside wall is available, cover it with large sheets of butcher paper, and have the kids enjoy making graffiti art with their chalk.
  6. Have the kids think up a small rhyme or poem together, and then write it out and illustrate it using the chalk.
  7. Play Hangman.
  8. Make a pattern with dots and have the kids connect the dots to make a picture.
  9. Check out this FamilyFun.com Racing Rectangles game using sidewalk chalk.
  10. Have the kids write their names with the chalk and decorate them as well.

Little League Party

baseball It’s Little League season! Time for baseballs, bats, gloves, and action on the field! Perhaps your child loves the game and would like a Little League birthday party. If so, this party will be easy to organize and hold, given that it will, most likely, take place outside of your home at a local baseball field, and the main activity will be playing the game! It’s a perfect spring/summer party.

For your Little League party invitation, build on the theme by hand-delivering inexpensive baseballs to your guests with all of the party details written on them. Ask the kids to bring the balls with them to the party.

Hot Wheels Party

Does your child love to play with Hot Wheels cars? These classic toys are super popular and would make an excellent party theme!

For the Invitations:
For a fun invitation, make your own party card-sized checked flags. Use white card stock and black strips of paper, and add a stick to one end to make the flag look authentic. Write all of the party details in race language (such as, “Race on over to my party!”) on the back of the flag.
