An adaptation of Maurice Sendak’s beloved childhood book Where the Wild Things Are hit movie theaters recently. How awesome is this movie? Check out the trailer here. As you may know, Where the Wild Things Are is the story of Max, a little boy who is sent to bed without dinner for being naughty. Once in his room, he creates his own world: a forest with wild creatures that crown him as their ruler. The story is full of creativity, imagination, and love, and it will be awesome to see director Spike Jonze bring it to life on the big screen.

Where the Wild Things Are would make an excellent party theme full of creatures, mischief, and wild things for Halloween this year.  And if  you somehow have made it this far without reading the book, check it out on Amazon.  It is truly a classic in the best sense of the word. You can also get the Where the Wild Things Are soundtrack and let your kids do a wild dance.

Amy Atlas showcases a wonderful Out of This World party that she planned for her son.  If you are interested in an Outer Space party for your child, check out this theme.  Amy’s use of limited colors really makes the decorations pop!  Of course, Amy Atlas is known for her candy and dessert buffets and this table scape is no exception.  Certainly her party is full of inspiration for this theme.

Is your child a fan of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid book series by Jeff Kinney? The fourth book in the series, Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days, will hit book stores across the country on October 12. Columbus Day is officially celebrated this Monday, and falls on this famous explorer’s actual  birthday, the 12th of October. If you want to spice up the day with your kids, make a mini celebration of this birthday. You may also find that your school-aged kids are interested in an “Explorer” themed party, i.e. celebrating beyond Columbus and into all of the others, including Vasco de Gama and Ferdinand Megellan.
