Beaded Flip Flops

beaded-flip-flopsIf you are looking to have kids bead flip flops, here is a great resource to check out for how to bead the flip flops: Jo-Anne’s  has a how-to for beaded flip flops. Just make sure that if the kids are going to do this activity they are old enough to handle a needle (most likely pre-teens and teens), and that the activity is well-supervised.

If they are younger, you may want to make them yourself and hand them out as a party favor at the party, or buy the cheapie ones with the wider plastic straps and have them use fabric glue (or hot glue if there are enough adults to supervise) to attach rhinestones and plastic gems onto the straps to fake the beading.

Christmas in July Activities for Kids

shutterstock_7261021 It’s strange to think about, but in five months it will be the week  before Christmas! People often celebrate Christmas in July on the 25th day of this month. Even though the holidays are not very close, you still can do something fun and different on a hot summer day by celebrating Christmas in July.

Birthday Parties for the Sensory-Sensitive Child

shutterstock_7838671 Here is an excellent post on Birthday Parties for the Sensory-Sensitive Child featured on Alpha+Mom in their Advice Smackdown Column written by Amalah.  She outlines very good points on how best to organize your party keeping your child in mind first and foremost.  It’s chock full of good information.

Cinderella Dreams

shutterstock_27760045Similar to a Princess Party, Cinderella may be considered a specific character within this overall party theme. Many kids love Cinderella (especially the ages of 4 to 7)….the Disney movie is a classic. Little girls are intrigued by the idea of having a glass slipper fit their little foot as the key to being swept away by the Prince. There are all sorts of magical elements to the story that can be incorporated into your kid’s birthday party.

When the kids first arrive to the party, make it true to the movie. Have the kids grab brooms and dust cloths and work away as the guests finish arriving. You can introduce it as the mean step-mom who forces Cinderella to work hard. It will keep them busy and get them into the party theme..awaiting the magic that is about to happen.

A Prince at A Princess Party?

So, your daughter wants a Princess Party and the school rule is that you must invite the entire class to her party…including the boys! How will this theme work for both boys and girls together? Recently I wrote a plan for a Fairy Party, that is quite similar to a Princess party. If you add some “boy friendly” activites that the girls will also enjoy, the theme will be a smashing success for both the Princess’ and Prince’s.

Lorelai’s Brilliance

I’m not sure about you, but I am a huge fan of, yes, ummm…The Gilmore Girls. Last night when I turned in, I was not disappointed. Not only did I see a great episode building to the season cliff-hanger…I got a lesson or two from Lorelai Gilmore on throwing a 13 year old party. It was almost like working…

To give you a few more juicy details….poor Luke offered to throw his daughter’s 13 year old birthday party at his diner without any help. After a disastrous start of shouting out the “rules” and then leaving them to it without any activities, Luke calls Lorelai to rescue him and save the party. She does this with absolute brilliance…what were her secrets? I thought I would share…
