There is an excellent article on the Washington Post regarding a family who always held a book swap in lieu of gifts at their kids’ parties, but as the children get older they voice their own protests against this set up.  This is an interesting read regarding establishing family values and ones that you may want your children to pick up through experiences like celebrating birthdays.  Book swaps are a great alternative to traditional gift giving, but as the kids begin to decide what they want, parents have to balance their ideas with their own.

Would you keep the alternative to gifts going or try and find an in-between solution that retains values, but also gives the kids a bit of what they want?

Diddy took  page out of MTV’s My Sweet Sixteen TV show and threw his son, Justin, a Super Sweet Party. Complete with celebrities singing, over-the-top presents, and huge numbers, Diddy went all out for his son.  I love the fact that he gave Justin a $10,000 check that promptly went to the Haiti earthquake relief effort…so a good dose of charity thrown into the mix as well.

Move over Tobey Maguire…the Spidey gig may be cool, but Conan O’Brien may soon be getting into the children’s entertainment business soon enough. Recently on the Tonight Show, Conan said “My name is Conan O’Brien and I may soon be available for children’s parties.” He also added that when he was a kid, he recalled “watching Johnny Carson and thinking, someday I’m going to host that show for seven months.”

Pretty Funny.  Who would you rather have at your next child’s party: Tobey or Conan?

Does your child love Spiderman?  It’s a great theme for a kid’ party and Tobey Maguire seems to know this. He is dressing up as his famed character to entertain children at their parties and to also keep in shape!
