Someone recently came up with “Cute as a Button” as the theme for her little girl’s first birthday party. This an adorable theme, and if you are having older kids attend the party, there are a few crafts you can make with them that keep with it.
Have your guests make a button bracelet using string and an array of different buttons. Tie the ends together, and have the kids wear their button bracelets throughout the party.
As a goody, have the kids use buttons to decorate a basic plastic frame. Adults will need to be on hand to help glue the buttons on. Have each kid take a picture with the birthday child, and place the picture in the frame as a keepsake.
If it is spring or summer, have the kids make button flowers. Draw a flower on construction paper, and glue a button in the center of it. After the glue has dried, stick a pipe cleaner through one of the bottom button holes and the construction paper; then pull it back through a top button hole to secure the flower’s stem. This is an easy and cute party keepsake.
You can find a host of other button crafts at the site Artists Helping Children. No matter what the age of kids at your party, there are a bunch of button-related activities that will keep everyone busy.
The kids can take home their button crafts as a goody. You may also want to fill little jars with an array of bright, coloful buttons for the kids to take home. Write “Cute as a Button,” the date, and the birthday kid’s name on each jar with a marker.
Do be careful with small kids, as they may want to eat the buttons. In this case, the activities should be well-supervised.
Say It!
