Donating the Presents to a CharityIf you are hosting a birthday party and your kid really doesn’t need any more stuff, or you are trying to teach your kids the idea of philanthropic giving, some language that you could use in your invitation is:

“In the spirit of giving, the gift you bring to our party will be donated to X charity. The charity seeks to…”

Make sure to choose a charity before the party and write a line about the mission of the organization in the invitation. The charity may be a favorite one of your family’s or could be a place that your kid chooses. The more involved your kid is in this decision, the better he will grasp the idea of philanthropic giving this season.

This type of language in your invitation provides guests with the expectation that their gift will be donated, as well as the type of organization it will be going to so the guests can expect and plan accordingly.
