shutterstock_9682993The Halloween spirit can hit you at any time, but a clever costume may be hard to find. Never fear, Jeanne Benedict of Celebrations.com has some quick and easy costumes that you can put together with items from home to help you look your best on Halloween.

Last-minute costumes seem to be most successful when they are conceptual such as “E-Male,” where a guy wears a big “E” on his shirt, or “Static Cling,” an oldie but goodie costume made by pinning a sock to a shirt.

You’re sure to get a few groans when fellow partygoers get the punch line, but it’s better than throwing a sheet over your head and going as a ghost.

And, when in doubt, rifle through your closet for clothes from days gone by and go as a decade such as the 70s or 80s!

10 Easy Costume Ideas

1. Movie Theater Floor
Dress in black and fasten pieces of popcorn, a candy box, straw and move theater ticket stub to your clothes to be a “Movie Theater Floor.”

2. Static Cling
Pin a sock or underwear to your shirt and dub yourself “Static Cling.”

3. Headline
Use a black make-up pencil and draw a thick line on your forehead to become a “Headline.”

4. Wrestle Mania Star
Drag out your spandex, tights, or any kind of stretchy fabric and put together a mismatched ensemble that includes a mask and cape to portray a “Wrestle Mania Star.” Be sure to give yourself a name like “Clash of Trash.”

5. E-Male
For the guys: create a big letter “E” from felt or paper and affix it to your shirt to dress up like “E-Male.”

6. Software
For the gals: put on something silky and supple for a “Software” Halloween costume.

7. Tie-Die
Fasten a bunch of neckties around your neck and use gruesome blue make-up on your face to embody the phrase “Tie-Die.”

8. Paint-by-Numbers
Use a black make-up pencil to draw areas on your face creating sections. Write numbers in the sections to make your face a “Paint-by-Numbers” canvas. Carry around an artist’s paintbrush and face paint to finish off the costume.

9. Fan Mail
Address a bunch of business envelopes and place stamps on them. Fan out the envelopes and tape the back so they stay in a fan shape. Stick them to the front of your shirt to be “Fan Mail.”

10. Reality TV Star
Be a character from your favorite Reality TV show. Put on a bandana and island wear for “Survivor,” or go out scantily clad for “Big Brother.” If you have a flair for fashion or an outrageous wardrobe, think “Project Runway” or “America’s Next Top Model.”
