Well, certainly kids can’t vote in today’s election, but it is still a great day to celebrate with your kids. It is the “right to vote” that is so important …and exciting for our future US voters!!
If you are looking to make today something special for your kids to remember, you may wnat to make a patriotic cake and discuss the importance of voting, what it means to be able to vote, how in many areas of the world people don’t have this right. It is a day for Americans to be proud! Helping your kids get excited over election day is a great excuse to bake a cake and have an interesting discussion.
For tweens and teens, you may want to hold a “mock vote” with your kids and see how they would vote if they could in this election. Ask them why they voted for their chosen candidates. Another interesting conversation to have is around all of the commercials that have recently been on TV. Did these advertisements help determine their mock vote? If so, how? If they could make a commercial for their preferred candidate, what would it include?
Election Day is a great teachable moment not only with your own kids, but if others are over for the afternoon and/or the evening. Oh, yes, don’t forget that cake. BrightIdeas.com has an easy Patriotic Cupcakes recipe on hand!
