Finding Nemo is a classic Walt Disney Pixar movie and with the fun characters – Nemo, Dory, Marlin, and more – it’s always popular for the kids to watch this adorable tale of Nemo’s journey in the South Pacific sea. An oceanic party theme is a popular one to throw (get supplies here), and if you want to mix in a few characters to this fun party or re-create Nemo’s world, a Finding Nemo party may be just the inspiration you are looking for. Find creative ideas here:
For your party invitation, using heavy card stock in bright colors, e.g. orange, blue, yellow, etc., and create Nemo and Dory fish invitations. Have your birthday child decorate the fish and on the reverse side write all of your party details. You can either send the invitations in an envelope, or place your fish in a plastic bag and fill it with a little sand and small shells and hand-deliver your invitation.
For your party decorations, find all of the darling thematic Finding Nemo party supplies at Birthday in a Box. To make it budget-friendly, use solid party supplies in the bright colors that match the theme for balloons, streamers and tableware.
Create Nemo, Dory, Marlin, and Bruce large cardboard cutouts and hang from your party ceiling with clear fish wire. You can also place a large Nemo on the front door to the party for a special welcome!
Create an ocean of balloons using different shades of blue and pearly white as well. Have them all over the party area to provide an effect of water.
Hang different shades of blue crepe paper in different doorways that the kids can walk through between party rooms.
Place a balloon machine in the party area, perhaps at the front entrance, to welcome the kids.
Add small and large shells to the kids’ party table. Overlay your tablecloth with white butcher paper and provide blue and green crayons. The kids can outline the shells while they wait for the party meal to be served.
Alternatively, place a fishing net over the party tablecloth and attach plastic seaweed from it for additional decor.
For a table centerpiece, if you have fish of your own, place the bowl in the center of the table.
For your Party Activities:
Create a large fish tank using a large cardboard box and painting it blue with fish all over it, just like the tank that Nemo is stuck in. Let the kids free play when they arrive at the party.
Have the kids make Jellyfish using blue, yellow, and green plates and attaching varying lengths of crepe paper using a glue stick. You can hang these up as additional party decorations and/or the kids can take these home at the end of the party.
Play Pin the Tail on Nemo
Go Fishing for Nemo. In a kiddie pool, fill it with plastic fish with a small magnet on the fish. With a small pole attach another magnet and let the kids go fishing.
Host a Nemo Hunt. Hide small Nemo cardboard cutouts and see how many the kids can find in a set amount of time.
Play Gill Says like Simon Says.
Play a game of Nemo Tag. Make the birthday child Nemo and have him tag the other kids, who become a part of Nemo’s school of fish. Keep playing until everyone has been tagged.
Make up Dory Speak. Ask a series of silly questions, and have everyone respond like Dory. Silly!
Watch the movie or a few scenes!
Break open a Nemo Piñata!
Serve Sea Snails, i.e. hotdogs rolled up in crescent rolls
Make orange gelatin stars for starfish
Make a Jell-O fishbowl using blue gelatin and gummy fish placed inside the bowl of Jell-O. Use a small fishbowl to serve the Jell-O out of.
Serve multi-colored Goldfish crackers.
Serve Kelp Juice (lemonade with green food coloring!)
For your party favors, send the kids home with a small fish bowl filled with Nemo stickers and other small thematic items. Keep it on budget and place just a few small items in the bowls. Use paint pens to write the names of the guests on each one. If you are thinking of sending the kids home with a little fish of their own, think twice, and read about that idea here.
Have a great time going under the sea with all of your favorite Finding Nemo friends!
