A fire truck party is sure to be a favorite among the little ones. Whether boys or girls, kids are fascinated by the the shiny red fire truck that howls down the road in times of emergency. When I was growing up, our neighborhood park had a mock red fire truck that we could climb on. We would pretend we were firefighters rushing off to save the next cat up the tree. Don’t be surprised if your kid wants a fire truck party. If so, here are some ideas for this theme:

One of the most popular places to have this party would be at your local fire station! You might want to call them up and see if they host kids’ parties. Firefighters can offer the kids a tour of the station, a ride down the pole to the trucks, and an up-close look at the nooks and crannies of the fire engines. This activity will truly make the fire trucks come alive and will also be educational for the kids. This would also take up the bulk of the party time, leaving a little bit left for cake and ice cream. Kids’ parties are something a fire station may do gratis; if so, make sure to do something nice in return, such as baking some treats or making a donation.

If you are unable to go to a fire station for your party, there are lots of crafts/activities you can do at your home that will be just as much fun. Try some of these:

Provide a firefighter badge and hat to the kids upon their arrival.

Play Pin the Fire Hat on the Firefighter or Mascot Dog.

Have a firefighter relay race. Divide the kids into two teams and have them dress in fire gear, run to one end of a room and back, and take off the fire gear so the next kid can do the same. The first team done wins. For the firefighter gear, use coats, hats, clunky boots, adult gloves, a garden hose, etc.

Teach the kids about getting down and crawling when you are trapped in a smoke-filled room. Take a clothesline and hang a group of thick black streamers on it. Have the kids crawl under the streamers to practice this for themselves.

Put together an obstacle course for your little firefighters. You can set this up any way you want. Have them climb over chairs and under tables, run through spare tires, and grab a balloon and pop it at the end.

Make your own fire truck from a large cardboard appliance box, and let the kids play in it at the party.

Play Put Out the Fire. Blow up a large number of red balloons. Have the kids use a fake phone to call 911 and report the fire. Afterwards, have the kids pop all of the balloons: fire’s out!

Dalmatians are often seen as a fire station’s mascot. Enjoy a Dalmatian piñata.
