When I think of Leap Year, I think of frogs! It’s a Leap Year this week, with one extra-special day this month, the 29th! Certainly, you could have some fun and enjoy some Leap Year fun! Take inspiration from the ideas below to enjoy one extra special day with your kids!
Some kids just love frogs ~ perhaps yours even catches them in the summer-time. They are cute, and can be a great theme for a party if your kid is into them or serve as ispiration for a Leap Year Party. They are also unique! If you would like to bring frogs alive at your next kid’s party, check out the ideas here:
For the invitation, cut out a frog from green card stock, make a slit for the frogs mouth, and roll up a small piece of paper that encloses the party details and place in the slit. Attach a fly to the end so that the guests must pull it to find out the details of the party. Use language like, “Hop On Over To My Pad!” You may want to place craft googly eyes for additional fun.

For your decorations, balloons and streamers in different shades of green and pearly white will be good choices. Save money by purchasing table ware in these solid colors as well. Give the effect of a pond by using a blue/green tablecloth for your party table. For a table centerpiece, place a stuffed frog in the center of the table and attach a few balloons. Confetti thrown on the table in the party colors, would also be fun. Placing green M&Ms would be an added treat on the table as well.
Further decorations include, placing Lily Pads all over the party room with frogs cut out or hanging down from the ceiling with string.
For activities:
Young kids would enjoy picking out a floating frog in a wading pool or, if indoors, the kitchen sink or bathtub. Have a prize correlated to the number placed on the bottom of the frog.
Enjoy a relay race playing Leap Frog!
Buy stretchy frogs, and have a frog flinging contest to see who could fling their frogs the furthest.
Use frog printables for the kids to color.
Have frog books and puzzles available for the kids to read and play during the party.
Play Musical Toad Stools, like Musical Chairs.
Play Pin the Tongue on the Frog.
Play Frog, Frog, Tadpole, like Duck, Duck, Goose.
A Frog Pinata may also be a lot of fun for the kids.
Make a batch of frog sugar cookies using a frog cookie cutter, an have the kids decorate with green frosting, candies, and sprinkles.
For the Menu:
Combine lime sherbert with 7-Up soda for a swampy punch. Place a plastic frog in the punch for further decoration. Freeze raisins into ice cubes for added decoration in the punch.
Serve frog legs (chicken wings), flies on a log (peanut butter on celery with raisins on top), fly dip (black bean dip) with nachos and chips, frog log mix (Chex Mix with extra pretzels), green M&Ms, small green chocolate mints, gummy frogs, chocolate raisins, fruit, cheese and crackers, frog and fly gut sandwiches (cut out into frog shapes and filled with any thing)
