What’s inside your goody bags?

If you are throwing a kids party…sending home a goody bag with each child seems part of the norm today. If the children are quite small, and parents stay at the event to watch over their child and/or both parents and children are invited…you do not need to provide goody bags to the adults. I am sure the adults would appreciate the gesture, but it is not necessary in the least.

If you are stumped for goody bag ideas, here are a few suggestions:

Stick with your theme. This makes it easy.  For example, if you are throwing a princess tea party, you could send them off with a princess wand, stardust (essentially glitter), a crown, and some tea cookies. You could package this in pink cellophane bags with a satiny pink ribbon. If you are having a circus party, have the children take home boxes of animal crackers, a red clown nose, face paint (bought at an art supply store), bottle of bubbles, and balloon animals.  If your child has selected a specific theme, and you are pressed for time, there are ready-made favor boxes available at both Birthday in a Box and Celebrate Express.

If you are having a “movie” type theme, and I think Curious George is going to prove a popular one, you can easily create an easy, thematic goody bag. Buy brown pails and fill them with a real banana, banana candies, small monkey toys (like Barrel of Monkeys), and perhaps other “stuff” that you find that coordinate with the exact movie…when you hit the party store.

I would definitely recommend in a goody bag that you include a sweet treat, a craft/art item, a small toy, and maybe some other miscellaneous item, i.e. a coloring book, word game, stickers, etc.

Make sure it is wrapped up and ready to go for the departing guests…when people get ready to leave, it usually happens quickly. Have the goodies ready or in a basket by the door, so that they are easily grabbed by or given to guests as they leave.

Goody bags give kids thrills long after the party on that day. Enjoy putting them together by following your theme and rummaging through the local party store to pull it all together!

Make sure to make yourself one too….long after the party, the memories will linger for you!
