Hip hop happy birthday to you! Hip hop happy birthday to you!
Is your kid a fan of Hip Hop Harry, the large bear who wears a blue cap, red shirt, and large H around his neck? Along with his team of friends, Harry teaches educational themes through fun hip hop beats and dances! Every weekday, great episodes of the show are on TLC and Discovery Kids TV, and school-aged kids love Hip Hop Harry. What a great (and active!) party to plan for your kids.
Invitations
For your party invitation, make an H necklace using heavy card stock. Cut it into a large circle, and place a yellow H in the center. On the back of the card, write all of your party details. Double hole punch the card, and use colorful string to make a necklace. Either mail or hand deliver your party invitations to your guests. Make sure to ask them to wear their Hip Hop Harry necklaces to the party.
Decorations
For your party decorations, choose balloons, streamers, and partyware in Hip Hop Harry colors: red, blue, and yellow. If you want to make it even more Harry-esque, add H’s to the balloons, cups, and anything else you want to make thematic.
An important part of the party room will be the dance area, so make sure to move your furniture and clear a space where the kids can dance the Harry!
Activities
While the kids wait for everyone to arrive, have them decorate blue painter caps with fabric pens. They can wear their caps during the party, just like Harry, and take them home as a party favor.
Hip Hop Harry has a group of friends that work with him on the show. At your party, let the guests be the friends and have them work as a team to do fun, hip hop activities:
- Dance, dance, dance!
- Have the kids create their own hip hop moves and take turns showing them off either on their own or as teams
- Divide the kids into two teams and have a dance contest. See who can dance the longest, jump the highest, get down the lowest, etc. Let the kids vote on who wins the contests.
- Do the Harry! Let the birthday kid lead the group, just like Harry.
- Sing the Harry Happy Birthday song
- It’s all about cooperation and teamwork on Hip Hop Harry. Divide the kids into groups of three or four and give them each a theme that they must build a hip hop dance around.
Party Menu
One episode takes place around Hip Hop Harry’s big top, which is perfect to theme your party menu on. Serve circus foods to your little hip hop artists, including hot dogs, large pretzels, chips, popcorn, snow cones, ice cream, and blue-frosted cupcakes with a yellow H on top.
The kids can take home their necklace and painter cap. If you want to give an additional party favor, purchase red T-shirts and use an H decal to make them Hip Hop Harry-esque!
Have fun!
