shutterstock_6715543The annual tradition of opening a calendar of days during the month of December to help kids count the days down to Christmas makes these dark days light and frothy with anticipation. If you are looking to have a twist on the old calendar this year, instead of filling each day with a chocolate or small toy as they open the numbered door, why not place a clue in its place? Make the kids search out their daily surprise. You can do one clue, “I can be found in the coldest place in the house, as close as you will get to the North Pole!” (i.e. the prize can be found in the freezer!)

I have heard of a family that offers 10 daily clues to their kids to find their prize of the day. If you are creative and have the time to think of one clue or 10 clues, the kids will have one anticipating the clues to come and searching to find their daily treat.

If you don’t already have an advent calendar, check out the selection from Amazon. They have quite a few to choose from, including some with candy and some with toys. Then all you need to do is think of some clues.

Great idea!
