shutterstock_7914067Is your city or town hosting a holiday parade this month?  If so, it would be a great idea to gather your kids’ friends and head to the parade.  This is a great birthday party plan if your kid is having a birthday in December and you are looking for a fun “outdoors” type of party as well.  Otherwise, if you just want to give your friends some time to shop without the kids along, I am sure they would be very happy for you to organize a trip to the local parade.  This could work with a plan for a city walk to take in the sights and sounds of the town’s holiday season as well.

As a note, if you take the kids to a parade, have a manageable number that you invite or ask for additional adults to help supervise depending on the age of the kids and the number.  Also, you may need additional help transporting the kids to the parade area.  Have the kids bring folding chairs and blankets if they would like to sit down as well.  Hopefully, you will be able to find an open area to be seated.

If you have space, the kids can enjoy jousting with wrapping paper rolls, throwing confetti eggs, having a ball that they can kick or throw around, blowing bubbles, etc.  Bring along a thermos of cocoa and cups for the kids to drink to stay warm.  The fun will be the parade itself.

If this is not a part of a birthday party, and just a holiday gathering, see if the kids can bring some money along for a simple lunch at a kid-friendly restaurant.  Enjoy lunch together.  While you wait for lunch, have cards, pick up sticks, and jax and balls on hand to play to keep the kids occupied.

The afternoon will fly by with the kids enjoying the special holiday outing together with one another.  Although it takes some pre-planning, it will not be expensive if this is your birthday party plan, except make sure to pay for the lunch as well.  If just a gathering, have the kids bring the balls, etc. and pay for their own lunch.  It would be appropriate for you to ask parents to cover these costs on such an occasion.

Say It!
