shutterstock_2268977Hotels may serve as a good overnight destination for a slumber party, especially if you don’t want your house all messed by a group of pre-teen boys and/or girls. If you decide to take a group of kids to a hotel overnight, it will be a thrill for kids age 9 to 14. This can be especially popular venue if your child wants a swimming party, and their birthday falls in the middle of winter!

If you are going to use a hotel as an outside venue, make sure that the hotel understands there will be a party of “x” amount of children, so they can give their OK. The hotel may also offer you a special price on adjoining rooms and/or rooms that have a kitchen for snacks and breakfast. I would limit the number of guests invited to five, plus the birthday kid. If there are four double beds, three of them are taken with two kids to a bed, and the fourth bed will be for the parent. So, it works out well to have a small number of guests attending the party.

Also, in the invitation, make it clear where the overnight slumber party will take place, and make sure to have all parents’ contact information readily available.

This party will mainly center around swimming, so have the kids bring their swimsuits and beach towels. They will be able to swim, play water games, and enjoy the Jacuzzi together if there is one at the hotel. Swimming will wear them out, so when they return to the room you can provide dinner (make it easy and order pizza!) and the traditional cake and birthday candles.

Use fun pool party supplies to pull in the swimming theme.

Birthday in a Box

Also, this would be the time to open presents.

Afterwards, you can put on a video for the kids to watch together. If you want to have an activity, you could always do a mini-spa for the girls, and have them give each other mini-manicures/pedicures, facials, and/or massages. The boys would probably be interested in playing video games on a computer, if this is available. Most of the kids will be so excited, it will be hard to fall asleep, so you could also tell stories into the night as another “game” that keeps kids interested, but also calm.

Hotel parties are fun, as it is quite sophisticated to go to a hotel for a party with your friends. Keep close watch, have fun, and enjoy!

  2. Ok, so my party is in the beginning of February and I had a great idea for my party that I wanted to share. It’s like a dance-off thing. You bring a couple of CD’s and a portable radio and dance-off with your friends. Also some hotels let you play video games and I’m bringing the Wii and doing a tournament. It’s gonna be so much fun. Also, hotels are only like $50 and if you have like 5 people total food will only cost like 25 dollars per meal if you go to like Taco Bell or something and most hotels provide free breakfast so you only have to worry about dinner and maybe lunch. This is a great idea and you should try to convince your parents.
