Here’s a slumber party birthday idea for kids that sure beats a pricey night at the local “laser tag.”
Host a party themed around Legos where the kids build characters, structures, or whatever their imagination conjures, and then make a Lego stop motion video.
Or they can play Lego Wii into the wee hours of the morning and celebrate with a Lego-shaped cake!

Decorations
For small slumber parties, many parents opt for very simple or no décor. But you have to serve birthday cake and so party plates are a must.
- To tie in the Lego theme, choose primary color plates or pick a style based one of your activities, such as Star Wars party supplies if you are playing Lego Star Wars Wii.
- Punch up the atmosphere with a bunch of primary color helium balloons.
- Don’t forget some cool party favors like a rainbow LED lanyard or a pack of glow sticks.
For younger kid parties:
- Stack jumbo Lego building bricks on the party table to make a centerpiece.
- Tape or glue round cardboard tubes or cylinders on to big boxes and paint them to resemble giant Legos. Arrange the boxes around the yard to make a Lego village for the kids to play in.
- Create games using jumbo Lego arches or structures where kids roll or put a ball through the tunnel.
- Play a Lego building game “blind-folded.” Have the kids sit at a table or on the ground with a pile of Legos in front of them. Give each kid a blindfold to wear or they can simply close their eyes. On “go” the kids build a Lego creation for about a minute and every one is a winner!
- Check in your area for a professional Lego party company where they come to your house with a bunch of Legos, set up party activities, and more.
Lego Birthday Cake
Ingredients
- 9×13-inch cake from a grocery store bakery (preferably not frosted or with white frosting)
- 1 can chocolate frosting (for filling between layers)
- 2 cans white frosting
- Food coloring to tint the Lego frosting
- 8 mini cupcakes
Steps
1. Cut 9×13-inch cake in half to make two 9×6 1/2-inch cakes. If your store-bought cake has frosting on it, scrape it off.
2. Place a 9×6 1/2-inch cake on your serving platter. Ice the top of the cake with the chocolate frosting and place the other 9×6 1/2-inch cake on top.
3. Spoon the white frosting into a bowl and tint it to your desired color with the food coloring.
4. Ice the entire cake with a “crumb coat.” (A “crumb coat” seals in any loose crumbs so they won’t appear on the final layer of frosting.)
5. Scrape the frosting off the mini cupcakes. Turn them upside down and place them on the cake to resemble a Lego.
6. Ice the mini cupcakes on the cake and let the icing air dry for about an hour.
7. Finish icing the cake with as many coats as necessary to get a smooth finish. Refrigerate until it’s time to serve!
