If your kid is a bit of a spy…always on, checking the scene out… a great theme for the ages of 9 to 12 is a Spy Party! It’s not too cute and its not too silly…the kids will find the theme cool.

FamilyFun.com’s Spy Party offers an excellent party plan for your detectives. I like the idea not to overdo the decorations and the food…keep it simple for this age group.

Pull together your theme with Spy Party Supplies.

Other fun Spy Plans:

  • Make sure to fingerprint the kids as they arrive. Then snap their photo. Have pre-made badges ready and stick in the picture and fingerprints, laminate, and hand out to wear at the party.
  • Take a footprint of the kids as well as they enter the party. Later on, have the kids determine who’s footprint belongs to whom.
  • Instead of a goody bag, hand out a manilla folder box filled with a pencil, notepad, eraser, sunglasses, fake nose, magnifying glass, toy binoculars, etc. These items may be used at the party and taken home.
  • As a centerpiece for the party table, use an old briefcase and open it up and fill it with your kids’ sly toys, also add a bunch of manilla folders marked “CONFIDENTIAL.”
  • Have the kids use their goody bags to go on a search to solve a crime. One “crime” you can set up, is to hide the birthday gifts either in the year or around the house. Rip up wrapping paper and have it laying around. Have the kids enter the room where the presents were, and realize they have been taken. Have the kids solve the mystery with their detective kits.
  • Play “Wink Murder.”

Set up a Spy Academy and have the kids do some of these activities:

  • Divide the group into two teams. Prepare a hole in a posterboard and have the one team peer through the hole with one of their eyes. The other team has to decide who it is based on the eye color.
  • Have a dexterity test: Have them diffuse a bomb, by bursting a little black balloon, pour themselves a “Drink,” and throw a dart at a “Bad Guy.” Then the next kid goes in line.
  • Have a tricycle race…should be funny given these are tweens!

The Spy/Detective theme will be a lot of fun and should keep your tweens on their toes. Gotcha!

Say It!
