I’m not sure about you, but I am a huge fan of, yes, ummm…The Gilmore Girls. Last night when I turned in, I was not disappointed. Not only did I see a great episode building to the season cliff-hanger…I got a lesson or two from Lorelai Gilmore on throwing a 13 year old party. It was almost like working…

To give you a few more juicy details….poor Luke offered to throw his daughter’s 13 year old birthday party at his diner without any help. After a disastrous start of shouting out the “rules” and then leaving them to it without any activities, Luke calls Lorelai to rescue him and save the party. She does this with absolute brilliance…what were her secrets? I thought I would share…

Lorelai Gilmore’s 13 Year Old Party Brilliance:

Show up and crown the new teenager with a sparkly tiara.

Take the birthday pack to a makeup store or a place that has lots of teen-type makeup and pretty things. Hand out baskets and let the girls shop…ooohhhing and aaahhhing over the sparkles, scents, and glosses. Later on, have the girls make each other up doing nails, hair, makeup, pedicures. etc. This will take the better part of the party.

If the makeup place is close enough, you can have the girls get into a line and hold each other hands. Lead the girls to the storm by running quickly as a squirmy snake ~ they will have to follow.

Extend the party into a sleep-over….playing silly games, telling stories, and watching “Pretty In Pink” ~ introducing a new generation to Molly Ringwald.

I so wanted to be at Lorelai’s party…I could almost taste and feel the Dr. Pepper Bonnie Bell Lipsmacker on my lips! I think I will run out and buy one.

Embedded in this Gilmore Girls was a fabulous party…I just had to share it!
