Building. Life is all about it! One of the best toy companies out there that helps kids use their imagination and fun tools to build is Lego! Lego has been around since 1932, and is the sixth largest manufacturer of kids’ toys. Impressive! All of us have played with Legos at some point, or at least watched other kids play with them.

You can build a really great theme around Legos for your next kids’ party. The official Lego site has a parents page, which can give you inspiration for activities to do with your kids at parties, and beyond! Check out their great Let’s Play and Imagination Builders sections.

For some additional ideas on holding a Lego-themed party, have a read below:

  • Hand-deliver your invitations, and attach a few Lego bricks to the envelope to inspire enthusiasm for the party!
  • For another invitation idea, stack a bunch of Duplos, and on the side attach a label with all of the party details. Again, this will need to be hand-delivered.
  • Use bold, bright primary colors for balloons, streamers, and tableware.
  • Purchase Lego brick candy and throw it all over the table as confetti. Have a contest at the table where the kids build towers with their candy Legos.
  • For your table’s centerpiece, have the birthday kid make a large Lego creation. Tie balloons to the masterpiece for added festivity.
  • Print out a series of Lego facts and laminate them for placemats. This will keep the kids busy while they are at the table.
  • Place “Lego Factory” and “Lego Lunch Break” signs up throughout the party area.
  • When the kids arrive, have big buckets of Legos on a table for them to immediately begin building with as you wait for all of the guests to arrive.
  • Give out awards for the kids’ creations after everyone has built something, such as tallest tower, most colorful, etc.)
  • Have a Lego Drop. Use buckets or cut the tops off of milk cartons. Have the kids place a Lego under their chin and try and drop it into the container. To make this progressively more difficult, have the kids stand on a stool, and then on a chair as they try to drop it in properly. Make sure the kids are well supervised.
  • Have a Lego Ring Toss. Make a large tower out of Duplos. Cut off the rims of paper plates, and paint or color them bright colors. Have the kids try to toss their ring around the tower.
  • Enjoy a Lego Race. Have stacks of Legos on one side of the party room, one for each guest. Have the kids race to their stack, pick up their pile, and return to their starting position. Have the kids build an ego statue in a shape that has already been made by the birthday kid. First one done wins!
  • Have a Lego Spoon Race. Divide the kids into two teams, and have each team take one spoon. Each team must race to the opposite side of the room where a bucket of Legos is, spoon out as many as they can fit on their spoon, and bring them back to the starting place where they will drop the Legos into a bowl. After all of the kids on the teams have completed the race, they must build a tall tower. The team with the biggest tower wins the race.
  • Purchase a few “Build A Car” Lego packs and divide the guests into small teams, with two to three people to a team. Have each team build their cars, and then have a race down ramps to see which car will go the fastest. Allow the kids to tinker with their cars and re-run the race to see if there are any differences.
  • Play Pin the Dots on the Lego Brick.
  • Play Hot Lego!
  • Have the kids guess how many Legos are in a jar.
  • Set up a Lego Scavenger Hunt. Hide a large number of Legos all over the party area. The kid who finds the most, wins!! Hand out little paper cups for the kids to place their loot in.
  • For the menu, make Lego sausages using regular sausages dotted with ketchup on top to make them look like Lego bricks. Also make mini-pizzas, and decorate them to look like Legos with pepperoni, peppers, and olives. You could also serve Jell-O Jigglers in the shape of bricks, or Rice Krispie treats with candies on top.
  • FamilyFun.com has a wonderful Lego cake!
  • For goodies, send home the Lego candy, as well as mini Lego building sets so the kids can continue their fun long after the party. Other ideas include brick separators, Bionicle magnets and keychains, Lego Racers, etc.

  3. I love those ideas. I’ve done a bunch of Lego parties and building and racing Lego cars can be done for hours! I’ve never seen kids so good at birthday parties – or having such a great time.
