Here are some ideas for your Luau party this summer:
Have all of your guests dress in their wildest Hawaiian gear.
Greet your guests with flowers for the ladies and leis for the gentlemen.
To give it a tropical feel, you can spray paint an old white sheet with a tropical scene and hang it outdoors, perhaps between two trees. When the guests arrive, take pictures of everyone with the tropical scene as a backdrop.
Play Hawaiian music for the background.
Put grass skirts around your party tables and even around the patio. Light torches. Hang an “Aloha” sign at the entrance to your party. Put pineapples and other tropical plants/flowers around for decorations. Hang colorful toucan birds from your trees.

To stretch your party dollars, don’t feel the need to have everything match. Blue, red, or green solid partyware will look GREAT with these cute plates and cups.
If you have a pool, fill it with beach balls. You could even get a small kiddie pool and fill it with beach balls or bouncey house balls as well.
Serve little sandwiches cut out in fishy shapes. You could also serve goldfish crackers or fresh fruit salas inside melon cups. You could make cakes in ice cream cones and then have the kids frost them and decorate them with tropical flowers made out of sugared candies. If you’re looking for hot food, you could serve Hawaiian pizza, or make Hawaiian meatballs and veggie/chicken/steak kebobs on skewers.
Serve Hawaiian punch!
Have a limbo competition. Maybe older kids will be attending, or the adults will want to play.
Enjoy a pinata! Birthday in a Box has several that might fit this theme, including a seahorse, a flower or a clown fish.
As a party favor, buy little sand buckets and draw palm trees and fish on them. FIll it with gummy fish, sand shovel, bubbles, sunglasses, etc.
Include the picture you took at the party in the thank you notes you send out after the party.
