The movie/holiday season is almost upon us and surely one of the most popular movies this season will be Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa, e.g. the sequel to the very funny and clever first Madagascar movie.  The crew is headed back to NYC (supposedly) on a jet airplane with penguin pilots!  Let’s see how their adventure unfolds when they land in Africa instead!

I really love this movie, and it can easily be spoofed into a perfect party for kids, especially since kids love the Jungle Party theme and it is perfect for both boys and girls!

You can find all of your Madagascar Party Supplies at Celebrate Express.

For an invitation, make it simple on yourself and have the kids make Paper Airplanes, and hand-deliver them to their party guests.  Make sure all of the details are written within the folds of the airplane!  Speaking of, paper airplanes are a great party activity as well.

For the Activities,

The kids will love to dance to Move It! Move It!  have some great dance music available to dance!  Amazon has the Madagascar 2: Escape 2 Africa soundtrack.

Hold a Penguin Hunt!  These guys have escaped…have the kids search for them around the party area.  Using a Penguin cookie cutter, cut out the characters, and hide them well.

Have the kids create a Map of Africa!  Using a large piece of butcher paper and art supplies, have a globe on hand for the kids to create their own Africa.  Hang this map as an additional party decoration.

When the lemur hops out of the cake to wish the gang well as they enter their airplane, he has a funny feather hat on his head.  Have the kids make their own feather hats to wear at the party and take home with them!  Using construction paper, beads, feathers, and markers, the kids will have fun with this activity!

Break open a Madagascar Pinata!

Have the kids take their own African Adventure and provide the kids with mock passport books.  When the kids arrive at your party, snap their picture and add it to their passport.  Have them take a visit to different African countries, choose three: South Africa, Kenya, and Botswana as examples.  Any countries will do, and use different areas of your party area for the kids to visit and learn about the country.  Dance your way to the different areas and make sure to do something special as you visit each country in order to get their passports stamped.  Oriental Trading Company has some African themed art projects that would work for this.  Also, as an example, here are some ideas for Kenya and other ideas for Africa.

Have two pairs of binoculars available, and give them to the kids after you divide them into two teams.  Give another member of the team a small notebook and pencil.  Give the kids an allotted amount of time to spy as many things as they can around the party area and yard.  Whoever spies the most during the time frame, wins!

For the menu, using jungle cookie cutters, cut out sandwiches, Jell-O Jigglers, cheese slices, brownies, small cakes to match this theme.

Send the kids home with their passport books and funny hats they created at the party.  Here’s another favor box idea too!

Say It!
