Have you seen Disney’s movie creation Meet the Robinsons? Although this movie is now a few years old, it is excellent and meant for the entire family. Why? The themes are simply universal and resonate across all ages…themes like “Failure can be brilliant leading to your future success!”, “Keep Moving Forward.” , and “Letting go of the past to embrace your future.” Little Lewis is ensconced in an adventure that teaches him all of these truths, in a fun and brilliant story! If your kids have seen it, I bet they may be requesting a party with this same theme. If so, take some inspiration directly from the movie and plan your party:
- Lewis creates a “Memory Scanner” as a top-notch science fair project. Send an invitation off in the shape of your own Memory Scanner that invites kids to travel to the party for a fabulous, inventive adventure.
- In addition, make up signs and place around your home. Some of these can include: “Welcome to TodayLand!” and “Keep Moving Forward!” Take your kid’s initial and make a big sign (like the R on the Robinson mansion) and hang on your own front door.
- When the kids ring the front doorbell, have a musical instrument ring out to announce their presence, just like when Lewis gives the Robinson’s door a ring!
- When the kids arrive, give them name tags, large plastic glasses with black rims, and felt Bowler hats to wear during the party. These can be taken home as the favors as well.
- Lewis is an inventor! Group the kids into teams of 2-3 kids, and have them make devise their own invention. You can provide them with arts and crafts materials, and suggest they use their imagination to draw and then describe their prototype.
- Play “Hot Bowler Hat” like Hot Potato.
- Play “Lewis Says” like “Simon Says.”
- Have small Erector sets on hand for the kids to tinker with to build their own Time Machines.
- Have the kids describe where they would go if they could travel in time. The kids can sit in a circle and play telephone, whispering in each other’s ears where they would like to go…the last kid to hear has to state the place out loud. Let’s see if it’s the same place that the kid intended!
- Baseball is Goob’s favorite game. If it’s a nice day, play ball! And don’t let Goob drop the ball! This could also be played as a team activity. Divide the kids into teams of two and let them toss balls back and forth. The team who tosses their ball the longest without dropping it wins!
- Bake those cookies! That actually means dance! Play some music and have the kids bake their own cookies!
- Blow Giant Bubbles…it is after all how the people get around in TodayLand!
- For a grand menu, serve up another Lewis favorite, PB&J…if you don’t mind a mess, have the kids invent a way to serve up the two at one time. Have the bread cut out into dino and frog shapes, just like the Robinson’s pet dino and frog chorus.
- Meatballs and Spaghetti are another favorite at the Robinson household. If you are outdoors and don’t mind a bit of a food fight, the kids could enjoy sharing their meatballs among one another much like the Robinsons at their dinner table.
- Serve up punch with ice cubes. Freeze gummy frogs in the ice cubes for additional festivity.
- Kids can take home gummy animal candies, their glasses, their felt Bowler hat, some cookies for their favor.
The movie is simply chock full of fabulous ideas!! Rent it, take it in, and find your own creative inspiration. It is so darling! Enjoy Lewis’ adventure and the fabulous message too!
