If you are hosting a party for the 2 to 4 year old crowd and simply are looking for a few games and activities that will be a big hit, try some musical games. Kids this age just love music, and so even if you don’t have a particular theme for the party, these games are sure to please:

Musical Chairs!

Musical Numbers, cut out large pieces of cardboard and place a number on each piece. Place them in a circle or around the party area. Play music and have the kids either go around the circle of numbered pieces or ance around the area. When the music stops, have the kids jump on the closest number. Pick a number from the hat and the kid on that number leaves te game with a prize.

Freeze Dance, and have the kids freeze in the shape of a birthday celebration, i.e. a cake or a candle.

Have a Limbo Competition!

Play “Hot Potato” to music.

Name that “Tot Tune” ~ pre-record some of this age group’s favorite. Play it and then stop it and see who knows the song. Continue to song until they know it.

What’s That Sound? Pre-record familiar sounds, like a dog barking and telephone ringing, and have the kids guess the sound as you play them.

Have a Sing-A-Long. Pass out a few instuments, a drum, a wazoo, a cymball, a tamborine, and have the kids make beautiful music while singing along!

  1. We had a Dance Party for our 9 year old son. He wanted this, so we hung lights (multi colored christmas lights) and put different colored bulbs on all our lamps and ceiling light fixtures. We hung a disco ball, made a CD with some good (age approrpriate) dance music and let the kids go to town! You can ask the kids to dress in their favorite dance outfit, or just come as they are. They had a blast!!! and the time went real fast!!

  2. Carmen, great idea. I considered having a dance party, but it doesn’t seem like thre would be much to do. Unless you are throwing a dance party for a teen, t doesn’t really seem “fun” to me. But that was some very good ideas.
