When my child is invited to a home party where there is an entertainer that makes loud noises, i.e. magic shows, etc., she becomes very scared and begins to cry. She says it hurts her ears and she wants to immediately leave. Is there any way that we can stay, as I think it’s rude to simply up and leave in the middle of the party?

Some kids are very sensitive to sound and noise. If she is stating that the noise is hurting her ears, take her seriously. You have a few options. Instead of leaving the party completely, ask the host parent if there is a quiet place that you and your daughter can be in while the entertainment portion of the party happens. If so, have a few books on hand and a juice box you can give her while you wait out this time. If she loves the entertainment, and wants to be with the group, have a pair of earplugs on hand that she can use. This will help ease the noise and allow her to stay with the group.

It is a good idea to anticipate this situation arising, and ask the host parent when you RSVP what type of entertainment will be taking place. From there, you can make your plan and know what to expect from the beginning.

The last resort solution would be to actually leave the party early. By having a few different options available, this option will most likely be curtailed.
