Although we are planning on inviting our immediate family to our three-year-old’s party, and this will include the older siblings in our family, I would only like to invite his fellow friends who are three-years-old, and not their older siblings because the party is about the little ones. Is it rude to not include the siblings of my kid’s friends?

If this is for a party where you are inviting all of the families along with the children, then it would be rude to not include the older siblings because they are a part of the family.

But, if you are only inviting the immediate family and their kids and the rest of the guests are to just include the little kids, then I think it is OK to not include the older siblings. One thing to keep in mind, however, is that for three-year-olds, most of the parents will stay with their children at the party. So, you may receive some RSVP calls where parents ask if their older siblings can attend or not. Don’t be surprised and be prepared to know how many additional guests you can accommodate as far as your space and budget are concerned.

  1. I have a 5 1/2 year old son and a daughter turning 3. Most of our friends have a son and daughter with the same ages. However, when we get together the older kids rule. I want to do something just for the 3 year olds. However, it makes me uncomfortable telling people they can’t bring their kids. If my son is the only older one then I would have him helping me run the games (he’s a control freak) but if the other older boys are there he will only want to play pirates. This would of course result in me just sending him outside to run around with my Father in Law. Too bad there aren’t any party ideas out there for Big Brothers and Little Sisters. Some sort of teambuilding idea that would work for everyone.
