You are planning your kid’s first birthday party, and you have always heard what a great place Chuck E Cheese is for kids’ parties, and you are thinking of booking your party there…think again!

Unless you are having a bunch of older (than 3 years) kids attending your baby’s first birthday party and your main concern is to entertain this group, hold off on the Chuck E. Cheese for a few years.

A place like this may overwhelm your one year old as there is so much going on and most, if not all, of the fun is for older kids…So, as the older kids are off here and there playing, much of the focus will be off the baby turning one.

Also, the birthday kid may become upset with too much going on. First birthday parties are usually low-key and within a reasonable time frame…60 minutes to 90 minutes is plenty of birthday time.

Instead of spending a lot of money at a commercial venue, if you want to go elsewhere, find a local park and invite everyone for a picnic in the park.  The older kids can play a few organized run around games, and that will keep them plenty busy. If at your home, choose a simple theme with a few decorations, activities and games if older kids are attending, and let cake and ice cream take center stage.

There will be plenty of years as your kid gets older to head to Check E. Cheese…something a bit more low-key for the first year will be just the ticket!
