This traditional rhyme is a universal part of childhood.
Pat-a-Cake
Pat-a-cake, pat-a-cake,
Baker’s man
Bake me a cake
As fast as you can!
Pat it, and prick it,
And mark it with a “B”
And pop it in the oven for baby and me!
Traditional
For kids around the age of 2-3, this would be make for a cute theme as well. Given this age group, 60 minutes for a party is absolutely long enough. When the kids arrive, they can color pictures of different cakes. You can also play “Pin the “B” on the Cake.” Have the kids do the Pat-A-Cake rhyme with everyone else at the party. A central activity can be making a cake! Have all of the ingredients assembled and have the kids help put them altogether. Once combined, just like an good cooking show, bring out little cupcakes, and have them decorate the little cakes with frosting and candies. They can eat these of course!
Why do we mark it with a “B?” Instead of using B at the birthday party, use your birthday kids’ initial for the letter to mark it with! If you are looking for activities for any given letter, check out ChildFun’s Alphabet Activities.
