Disney released, for a limited time, Peter Pan on DVD.  It is a special 2-Disc DVD that captures all of the magic that we love about Peter Pan.  It’s a classic that is loved by generations of children.  Check out Kaboose’s review of this classic tale. It is also a great show to find inspiration for an upcoming kid’s party for many different ages and easily includes both boys and girls too. Check out the Disney site for a full range of Peter Pan printables for the kids to color.  You will also find a map of Neverland there too.

Invitations:

Make a Treasure Hunt Map Invitation leading to Neverland using brown paper that you crinkle up.  On the reverse side, using Second Star, describe the party details.  Add Pixie Dust for the guests to get sprinkled with when they open their invitations. Ask your guests to dress as one of the characters from the movie, i.e. Peter Pan, Tinkerbell, Wendy, John, or Michael. State: “You Provide the Faith and Trust, and We’ll Provide the Pixie Dust”

Check out the Party Invitation in a Bottle as an alternative idea.

Decorations:

  1. Hang a sign on your front porch with an arrow pointing to Neverland, and then include the Second Star as the point where your party begins.
  2. Inside the front entrance decorate with green leaves and fake flowers.
  3. Use any colors you like for your balloons, streamers, and tableware. Blue, green, and pink may all be popular colors.
  4. Curl ribbons and sprinkle confetti on to the party table for an added festive touch.
  5. Hang stars throughout the party area.

Activities

  1. As each kid enters the party, sprinkle him with Pixie Dust (glitter)!
  2. Have large sheets of butcher paper laying flat on the floor.  The kids are to lay down on the sheets of paper and someone can draw their outline onto the paper.  These are their shadows.  They can then color in their outlines while they wait for the others to arrive.  Make sure to have help on hand to make these outlines of the kids.
  3. Have the kids make a special craft, the girls can make star wands and the boys can make treasure boxes.
  4. Have a face painter on hand to paint teepees, fairy wings, hooks, swords, etc.  If the kids are waiting in line for this, put on the movie for the kids to watch.
  5. Make up a pirate cove using a very large appliance box and painting it black.  At the entrance to the cove, hang black streamers that the kids must past through to enter the cove.
  6. Play Pass The Hook, just like Captain Hook!
  7. Play Pin the “X” on Hangman’s Tree.
  8. Play Musical Stars like Musical Chairs. Cut out large stars that they kids walk on while the music is playing. When the music stops, the kids must find a star to land on, or they are out!
  9. Have a Tic Toc Croc Toss. Using a large cardboard box, paint it to look like a croc and cut out a large opening for the kids to toss bean bags through the crocs mouth.
  10. If you have a sandbox, bury little toys as treasures that the kids must dig up.
  11. Have a Canon Ball Bust.  Place small maps in a large amount of balloons that are then blown up.  On one of the maps in one of the balloons, mark a large red “X.”  The kids must pop all of the balloons to see who will find the map with the X on it.
  12. Play Shadow at Neverland. Pair up two kids together and one must lead with actions that the other kid must mimic perfectly, just like a shadow.
  13. Have the kids “Walk the Plank” by placing a sturdy board off the ground a few inches using bricks.
  14. Have the kids reenact the sword fight scene between Peter Pan and Captain Hook.  Give the kids an eye patch, a bandana, and pirate hat, and plastic swords.  Have all the kids take a turn reenacting the famous scene.
  15. Have a Feather Round Up. Throw a bag of feathers in the air and have the kids pick up as many feathers as possible during a timed 2-minute period.
