With all of the heat this summer, you would think you’d be safe from the rain. Often though, as we all know, thunderstorms and rain can come out of nowhere, especially with the heat, and there you are with all of your outdoor activities planned when the rain starts. No matter the weather forecast, always have a backup plan for your outdoor party.
Here are some rainy day party suggestions:
- If you are doing a lot of crafts outdoors, make sure you can do them indoors as well. Plan crafts that can be done both indoors and outdoors.
- If you are having relay races out in the yard and must come inside, clear a large area such as your garage or basement, and have the kids do mini-relay races indoors as an alternative. They may not be as much fun, but the spirit of the games is still there.
- If you are having a pool party and the main activity is swimming, make sure to have backup games for the kids to play indoors so they are not left staring out the windows at the miserable rain.
- If you have organized a scavenger hunt in your yard, be sure you have room to hide the items indoors too so you can quickly set it up indoors if needed.
- If you were planning on having a BBQ outdoors, make a secondary menu plan. You can still do hot dogs and hamburgers, but you may want the kids to build their own burgers with all of the trimmings as a party activity. Also, make sure you have a big enough party table to accommodate guests indoors.
Basically, you just need your solid “Plan A” for the outdoor party, but you do need to have your party table, menu, games, crafts, and activities somewhat planned in case you need to move the fun indoors. This way, if you wake up with a rainy party morning, “Plan B” is in place so the kids will still have an awesome time with the theme you have chosen.
