After all these years, Pokemon is still a very popular character for kids.  Whether they are playing the game or watching the cartoon, this is one of those favorite characters that make a great party theme!

Create invitations out of yellow or red heavy card stock.  Have your child draw his favorite Pokemon character on the front of each invitation.  Use Pokemon language to provide the details to your guests.

If you are looking to purchase the themed party supplies, Celebrate Express has everything to pull this theme together.  Alternatively, you can use bright red and yellow solid colored plates, cups, and tableware and offset it with a few items that are Pokemon themed.

Decorate with red and yellow balloons, hats, streamers around the party area! A Personalized Pokemon Happy Birthday Banner is another great decoration.

If your child likes to draw anime characters, take the opportunity to laminate a few and hang around the party table or as placemats at the party table.

For the party activities:

When the kids enter the party, have the kids draw a Pikachu.

Alternatively, have the kids make their own Pokemon cards using blank index cards and bright colored markers.  Have them create new characters an laminate them for the kids to take home!

Have an Apon Hand Hunt.  Fill plastic, clear gloves with small candies, e.g. M&Ms, and tie them off with a curly ribbon.  Hide the hands around the party area for the kids to find.

Play Pin the Flame on the Charmander. Drew the Charmander with a black marker on red poster board and cut out flames from yellow paper.

Play Pikachu stomp.  Place a Pikachu sticker in one balloon and blow up many balloons and place in the party area.  have the kids stomp and pop the balloons. The person who finds the sticker wins a sheet of stickers.

Decorate Pokemon Cookies with red icing and red and yellow candies.  These can be placed in colored cellophane bags and tied off with a ribbon for a party favor.

Play Caterpie. Partner the kids up and give each team a roll of toilet paper.  One person in the pair must wrap their partner up like a cocoon. Caterpie evolves by cocooning.

Play Mankay Says! like Simon Says!

Make a  Chikorita necklace using Fruit Loops and string. (Remember: Chikorita has a “necklace” of small green buds around its neck.)

Have a Freeze Dance game using Pokemon Music.

Hold a  Meowth coin hunt where the guests hunt for gold chocolate coins. (Remember: Meowth loves shiny round objects.)

Play Hot Ash like Hot Potato!

Play a Pokemon Trivia game!

For the party menu, serve: Pikachu pizza,  Charizard chips, and Pokemon Power Punch. Fill a punch bowl with Mountain Dew and strawberry sorbet for fizz and froth.

Make a batch of Pokeball cupcakes with red, white and black icing and a white gumball for the center!

Let the kids take home their own Pokemon cards that they created, stickers, and their Chikorita necklaces!  Alternatively, send home a Pokemon Favor Box!
