shutterstock_214050 It’s almost prom season, and this year everyone is watching their pennies! Still, prom is a wonderful event and makes memories that will last a lifetime.

Keep these budget-friendly tips in mind when you set out to plan your prom:

  1. Draw up your budget in advance, and determine how much you will spend on each aspect: attire, tickets to the dance, pre- and post-prom parties, transportation, etc. Once you have a budget, pool your resources with your friends to have a fun prom without going over.
  2. Skip renting a limo, and decide with your friends whose family has the nicest car. Ask the family if your group can use the car for the evening. Share the expense of fuel as well.
  3. When deciding on a dress, check out consignment shops that carry trendy, fashionable, pre-worn gowns. Such shops are popping up in many cities and offer a way to buy a beautiful dress within a reasonable budget.
  4. Have an accessory swap with your friends. Get together a few weeks before prom, and see who has accessories (hair clips, jewelry, nail polish, purses, etc.) that match your outfit and vice versa. Swap for the evening to reduce costs.
  5. Often, prom involves pre- and post-dance parties. If you are having a party, hold it at someone’s home where there are no additional fees to rent the space.
  6. Do your own nails and hair rather than having them done, or have some friends come over and help each other get ready. Doing each other’s manicures, pedicures, and hair is a fun pre-prom activity!
