So, Rachael Ray kicked off her new daytime cooking show this week. She’s great! And I know a lot of girls between the ages of 8 to 12 really are inspired by Rachael’s exuberance! Many parents are finding that their girls are looking for a “Rachael Ray” themed party these days! If you find your kid asking for such a party, you know that it is going to surround the art of cooking and, in particular, things you can whip up quickly for a few dollars!

Here are some ideas for the theme:

TO INVOLVE YOUR GUESTS AS LITTLE RACHAEL RAY’S:

Ask each guest to bring ingredients to the party to make a dish for under X amount of dollars. If you are having a particular meal for your party, such as an Italian extravaganza, have the kids bring ingredients to make dishes to match the theme. Keeping within the budget will be key. This will get the kids’ creative juices stirring and thinking like Ms. Ray!

OR

You could put together a pre-planned menu that you want to make and have all of the ingredients set out for the various dishes, all of which cost less than “X” amount of dollars, and the kids will be able to prepare each one together.

Either way that you do it, you could play a little pricing game. If you are providing all of the ingredients, place price tags on each ingredient and have the kids guess if the price is higher or lower. If the kids bring their own ingredients, they can also lead this game for their particular dish!

Cooking up a storm will be the main focus of this party, and, of course, savoring it!

Another way to organize this party is to choose the party kid’s favorite travel destination, and decorate your home like that destination. Keeping with the Italian theme, hang an Italian flag, play Italian music, have a map of the country in the background, and make your invitation a passport to Italy and stamp it upon their arrival.

Rachael Ray loves exploring the foods of a city for under $40…so, give $40 of Monopoly money to your guests and have them eat in Rome on this budget. Have several dishes made up for “X” amount of dollars, and for them to eat, the kids must pay. You can also have purchased ingredients at the store and have them in your kitchen laid out with mock price tags. The kids will have to purchase their food with their money to make up their special dishes!

Good food on a budget, both in terms of money and time, is the ultimate theme of the party. Enjoy ~ both Rachael Ray and her inspiration for this party! She is amazing!
