It is a little different, but after going through many birthday parties and NEVER getting RSVPs I have devised a trick. It doesn’t work for family members, but I don’t feel bad calling them to see if they are coming…but, for school friends…
I do not include directions or an address for the party!
I simply write “call for directions” ~ that way if the kids are coming I know about it. I do put my cell number on the invitation so if we are at the location and get last minute calls I can answer the call and let them know where to go.
Now, I can plan better on the amount of food etc. and figure out if the parents will be staying or dropping off. Currently, I am in that “in between” stage where some parents want to stay. Of course I still make up an extra gift bag or two just in case!
