This is an excellent question, especially since many schools now have policies in place that require that parents invite the entire class to birthday parties. Odds are some of these parties will fall on the same day.

Here are a few ways you can handle this situation:

1. Don’t worry. Just go ahead and have your party. The point isn’t too have the only party on that date, and this can actually be unrealistic. One way to deal with this is to simply continue to plan.

2. Another option is to contact the parent from the other party and discuss the possibility of a joint party. This would work especially well if the children are in the same class.

3. The final alternative would be to change the date of your party. This may occur if the other party invitation came from your child’s best friend and he really wants to attend that party and have his friend attend his. You could see about only changing the times of the party ~ as many kids attend two parties in a day ~ or you could change the entire date of the party altogether. If you choose this alternative, make sure to call all of your guests personally and let them know about the change in date/time. It would be good to follow-up this call, with an updated invitation as well.

Parties often can fall on the same day. Make sure to take into account your kids’ feelings regarding this situation to help you decide which alternative you will choose!
