An invitation for your child’s party is a key component of your event. It can announce the theme of your party, it provides the pertinent information for the event, and it is a physical reminder of the party as well, i.e. people can hang it on their refrigerator. Invitations are readily available in most party stores, and can usually be easily matched to the theme you choose.
There is certainly a great variety out there. You can also work with a party planner to customize invitations for you or order them from online retailers like Birthday Express or Birthday in a Box (where you can get custom invites — cool!). Really, this will depend on your budget and the nature of the event.
Some points to consider: Remember to mail your invitations three to four weeks in advance. Also, it may be a very good idea to follow up your party invitations with a call to the children who have been invited to make sure they received their party invitation. Mail may not always be reliable, and this extra step ensures that people have received or at least know about the event.
With small children celebrating parties during the school year, please be inclusive of the children in their class. Otherwise, you and your child may run into hurt feelings. Some schools have policies where all of the class must be invited to a party to avoid such situations. Your teacher can direct you to the proper etiquette for your district.
