The Luck of the Irish….
Everyone is Irish on St. Patty’s Day! This holiday lands annually on March 17th. If you are thinking it may be fun to have a party to celebrate, you know that I would absolutely agree with you. Whether you have been planning it for awhile, or simply want to throw together a last minute gathering for the neighborhood kids, here are some ideas to make it a four-leaf-clover-lucky party.
Have a Blarney stone in the entryway of your place. Make sure everyone kisses the Blarney stone before entering!
Decorate with all things green: balloons and shamrock and leprechaun cutouts. (All can be found at your local party store this time of year.)
Greet your guests and have them wear a St. Pat’s leprechaun hat and blow Irish horns. Perhaps have St. Patty’s pins for your guests to wear as well.
Have bowls of green candies around your party space … a good one is green M&Ms. Yummm!
Games and activities can include searching for a pot of gold (use gold chocolate coins of course!), holding a limerick competition, and decorating St. Patty’s cookies. A shamrock cookie cutter would be a good one to have for this party. You could also make a Blarney stone, or hold an Irish “Jeopardy” competition where Irish trivia is posed and guests vie for Irish prizes!
For the menu, serve anything you like … just make sure to add green food coloring to make it festive! Also, make things in clover-leaf shapes, like a shamrock cake! Serve it with chocolate-chip mint ice cream as well. Serve green Jell-O Jigglers and/or green-frosted cupcakes! If you want to be healthy, enjoy leafy green salad and veggie sandwiches—cut into four leaf clovers of course!
Your St. Patty’s Day party will be a ton o’fun for your guests. Parents can always toast themselves with a mug of green beer afterwards (a perpetual favorite drink on the day) for a party well done!
