Where should I have my party…@ home or @ an alternative venue??
It is a hard decision sometime as to where you should have your next kids party. Of course, before you consult your child on what he or she wants for their special day…you should think over a few things to see what would be the best place this year for your kids’ party.
Some things to consider:
How much time do I have to organize the party? If you have a good chunk of time available and are feeling creative and energetic toward a party…then perhaps this is the year to do the whole shabang at your home. However, if all you really have time for is mailing a few invitations and organizing a place to host it, then an outside venue would look really good to me! Be honest with yourself when deciding how much time you have to organize the party. Once you know your time allotment, you will have a very good idea of which way to go.
The age of your child and his or her interests. Depending on your kids age, it may be a better year to stay in or go on an excursion. So often parties can be done along the same themes either at home or elsewhere. If your little girl is turning 4 years old and wants to make cakes with her friends…it may be just as well you prepare and host the party at your home. If she is a bit older and would like something a bit more sophisticated, taking a group of girls to a local pastry shop to make a little cake and learn about pastry chefs may be a better alternative. Of course, it will still come down to your time frame.
Review your parties from the past & then mix it up! Have you always thrown your kids party at home…or have you always gone out? If you have a set pattern, perhaps mixing it up with the opposite would do the trick. Recently, a mother said to me that she just finds the thought of hosting a party at her home very stressful. I made several party themes/suggestions for the next party that could be easily done at home, and she thought it would be special and different just for being at home.
When you have decided what your time frame will be, and reviewed your child’s age, interests, and past parties, then I suggest discussing it with your kid…providing a framework of what you have decided. As an example, “Yes, we are going to have a party, but this year we are going out! What sounds good to you?” Directing the conversation this way, will help to establish where the party will be and your child can contribute from there as to theme, place, etc.
Each party, each year is special and unique, no matter the venue! Make each one count within your schedule and the time you have available!
